GATES HOUSE GONE (1901-2018)

For the first time in over a century, the iconic "witches hat" on the Gates home is no longer visible from afar; the structure has been demolished. Talks with the owner about restoring/ repurposing the damaged structure were unfortunately not successful. It has been condemned for a number of weeks.Gates porch and the claw May 9, 2018 copyDonnelly at Lorton May 9, 2018 copy 2 The Story of the Gates Home

What’s going on with the El Camino Trees and Caltrans?

Come to the El Camino Real Task Force Study Session Monday, February 26 at 6:30 p.m. Lane Room, Burlingame Main Library, 480 Primrose Road For over a century, Burlingame residents and visitors to our City have enjoyed the historic grove of trees along El Camino Real. As the trees have aged, concerns have been raised about their impact on the safety and condition of the roadway, sidewalks, and storm drains. In June, 2016, the City Council created an "El Camino Real Task Force" and appointed six residents to work with a representative from Caltrans and City staff to identify the issues and develop criteria for potential solutions. The initial area being studied is between Sanchez Avenue and Palm Drive. The Task Force will be presenting its recommendations to the City Council on February 26. Residents are invited to participate and share their suggestions.
