Join us for our Quarterly Event: Dangerous Diplomacy: The Mysterious Death of Anson Burlingame Sunday, Feb. 28, 2027, 2pm Lion's Hall, 990 Burlingame Ave. For 150-plus years, history books have stated that the diplomat Anson Burlingame died in St. Petersburg, Russia of natural causes. But in 2025, two distant relatives of Burlingame challenged that narrative, producing evidence that he was likely assassinated, and published their findings in a peer-reviewed historical journal. Barbara Burlingame and Jack Burlingame, Anson Burlingame’s third cousins thrice removed, will present their assassination theory, explain how exhuming his remains could settle the question, and reveal some prime suspects in the alleged murder of the renowned diplomat. Free and open to the public.

Join us for our Quarterly Event: Walking Tour: A Creek Runs Through It Sunday August 2nd at 1pm Starts from Burlingame Ave. Train Station The tour will discuss how the Burlingame Creek once wreaked havoc on the downtown area, the new Town Square, Mummy’s Cave and the site of the Anza expedition camp. The tour will be approximately ½ mile on flat ground with limited shade. Meet at the Burlingame Avenue Railroad Station (290 California Drive) at 1 pm on August 2 for a walk through downtown Burlingame to El Camino Real. Presented in conjunction with the San Mateo County Historical Association's Victorian Days. Bring a hat and water.
Presentation sponsored by the Burlingame Historical Society about the Anza Expedition of 1776, comprised Spanish soldiers, missionaries and colonists, they walked from Mexico to the SF Bay Area and camped in Burlingame in March, 1776.
